Abstract

Background: Adolescents in Indonesia face diverse psychological challenges, yet traditional beliefs and stigma limit their access to mental health services. Valid assessment tools are necessary to understand their readiness for counseling and address barriers effectively.

Aims: This study aims to translate and validate the Seek Counseling Inventory (SCI) for Indonesian adolescents, assessing its reliability and validity within this demographic.

Methods: A structured cross-cultural adaptation process included translation, content validation, and equivalence testing. The study involved 435 high school students, and the SCI’s psychometric properties were evaluated using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Cronbach's alpha for reliability.

Results: The SCI achieved high content validity (Aiken's V ranging from 0.8 to 1.0) and acceptable model fit indices (TLI=0.976, CFI=0.947, RMSEA=0.051). Internal consistency was strong, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.822.

Conclusion: The Indonesian SCI is a valid, reliable tool for assessing adolescents’ counseling attitudes, supporting culturally sensitive mental health interventions in Indonesia.
